Twins Dean Chance Halts Chisox Win Streak 1 - 0

May 16, 1967 (night game) Comiskey Park

13,000+ saw Minnesota Twins ace right hander Dean Chance stymie the Chicago White Sox with a complete game 5 hitter and end the Palehose early season 10 game winning streak. Bobby Allison and Zoilo Versalles hit back to back doubles in the 2nd inning to account for the game's only run against White Sox starter John Buzhardt. Pitching well through 7 innings, Buzhardt allowed 5 hits and 1 run.

The Sox had two golden scoring opportunities but couldn't plate a runner. In the first, Don Buford singled, promptly stole his 9th base, but after ending up at 3rd after a ground out, he was unable to score. In the White Sox 5th inning, Buzhardt and Buford singled with 1 out, but were left stranded on 1st and 2nd. The White Sox grounded into 3 doubleplays helping Chance to finish the complete game.The first place White Sox are 18 - 8.

  1. I remember listening to this game. The feeling that somehow they would pull it out never left me. I was actually surprised when they lost. Later in the season, Chance outlasted Horlen by the same score. Both games were heart-breakers.
