Washington Senators Bernie Allen homered off Bruce Howard in the 1st inning to jump start the Nats and Barry Moore threw a complete game to defeat the Chicago White Sox 5 to 1. The Senators collected 11 hits and held the Sox scoreless until the ninth inning when Wayne Causey drove home Chicago's only run with a 2 out double spoiling Moore's bid for a shutout.

Wayne Causey was not known for power but he had good bat control, a good eye for a walk, and very steady hands on the infield. Left-handed infielders are more of a premium.
