Horlen Tosses CG, Sox Beat Angels 3 - 1

May 27, 1967 Night Game @ Anaheim Stadium

In command all night and improving his season record to 6 - 0,  Joel Horlen pitched a complete game 3 hitter and defeated the California Angels 3 - 1. Horlen struck out 3 and walked 2, lost his shutout bid in the ninth inning to a solo home run by California's Jim Fregosi. With the victory the Chicago White Sox improved their record to 5 - 4 on the current 12 game road trip.

Tommie Agee began the game with a leadoff single and promptly stole his 16th base of the year. After one out,  Pete Ward singled to score Agee with the Chicago's first run. In the White Sox 4th inning, Ron Hansen clouted a 2-run shot off Angels starter Rickey Clark (2-4) giving Chicago a comfortable 3 - 0 lead. Al Weis led the White Sox with two of the team's seven hits. Chicago is now 24 - 12 on the year.

Pete Cimino Closes Door on White Sox 7 - 2

Don Mincher's 3 run blast off White Sox starter Tommy John (3-3) helped vault the Angels to a 4 run lead after the 1st inning. Chicago mounted a rally in the top half of the 2nd off California starting pitcher George Brunet with a homerun by Ken Berry and a pair of doubles by Pete Ward and Jerry McNertney. But, Angels reliever Pete Cimino was summoned from the bullpen and quickly extinquished any chance of a Sox comeback. Cimino picked up the win while allowing only 1 hit the final 7 1/3 innings (a 3rd inning single by Tom McCraw).  * Pete Cimino lifetime major league statistics include 161 IP with 5 wins and 8 losses *.

Jim O'Toole Captures His 2nd Win

White Sox starting pitcher Jim O'Toole (2-1) surrendered only 5 hits through 7 innings and allowed no earned runs to help Chicago gain a split of the twinight doubleheader with a 2 - 1 victory over the California Angels. O'Toole stroked a run scoring single in the 5th inning to tie the score 1 - 1 while Ron Hansen's 8th inning bases loaded Sac Fly scored Tommy McCraw with the go ahead run. Hoyt Wilhelm retired the final two Halos to earn his 2nd save of the season. Angels bonus baby and future Chisox, Rick Reichardt had 3 hits for the Angels.

The White Sox are now 23 - 12 on the year.

Tommy McCraw Rocks The House

                       May 24, 1967 vs Minnesota Twins (Day Game) Metropolitan Stadium

White Sox 1st Baseman Tommy McCraw slugged 3 home runs and drove in 8 runs to help demolish the Minnesota Twins 14 - 1.  McCraw homered in the 4th and 7th innings off Dean Chance, and again in the ninth inning off a pitch from Jim Kaat. Chicago banged out 21 hits in total and Gary Peters (6 - 1) pitched a complete game allowing 6 hits and 7 walks while striking out 9 Twins.

A week earlier, Dean Chance shutout the Sox in Chicago snapping their 10 game win streak. But on this day, McCraw helped send him to showers during the 7th frame. Ken Berry had 4 hits for the day and along with McCraw's 3 big hits, J. C. Martin and Gary Peters contributed 3 hits a piece including a Peters homerun in the 9th off Kaat. The White Sox scored all 14 runs in only 3 innings: 2 in the fourth, 7 in the seventh and 5 more in the ninth.  Tommie Agee swiped his 15th and Don Buford his 12th stolen base of the season.

Hansen Caps Chisox Rally With 3-Run Blast

May 23, 1967 @ Metropolitan Stadium vs Minnesota Twins

Twin Cities Cesar Tovar and Harmon Killebrew belted homeruns off White Sox starter Johnny Buzhardt in the 1st inning giving the Twins a quick 3 - 0 lead, but Chicago bounced back on a 2nd inning Pete Ward homerun (his 5th) and a clutch 3-run shot by Ron Hansen (his 2nd) in the 5th inning to give the Chisox a 5 - 4 lead which ended as the final score.

John Buzhardt (2-2) went 6 1/3 innings and picked up the win. Hoyt Wilhelm knuckled the final 2 2/3 innings of hitless ball capturing his 1st save of the season.  J. C. Martin had an rbi while Tommy McCraw and Ken Berry each contributed a stolen base. Chicago's win ended a 3 game losing streak and are currently 2 - 3 on a 12 game road trip. The 1st place White Sox are now 21-11.
