Hoyt Wilhelm Gets Win As White Sox Earn Split in Doubleheader

April 30, 1967 (Game 1) @ Comiskey Park

The Cleveland Indians Gary Bell handcuffed Chicago 2 to 1 in the first game scattering 7 hits and allowing only a Tommy McCraw solo home run in the bottom of the ninth. Bruce Howard pitched brilliantly through eight innings surrendering 1 run and only 2 hits. Indians Leon  Wagner's solo shot in the top of the 9th off Bob Locker gave Cleveland the insurance run that won it.
The White Sox had opportunities to score but couldn't come up with a clutch 2-out hit. Ron Hansen was cut down at the plate for the 3rd out in the 5th inning.

April 30, 1967 (Game 2) @ Comiskey Park

The Chicago White Sox came back from a 2 - 0 deficit to gain a split in Sunday's doubleheader winning 4 to 2.  Jim O'Toole started his first game of the season allowing 5 hits and 2 runs in 1 1/3 innings.  John Buzhardt, Dennis Higgins and Hoyt Wilhelm pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in relief with Wilhelm earning his first win of 1967. Higgins hurled 3 1/3 innings.

Tommie Agee had two key rbi's and a SB. Don Buford scored twice with 2 more SB's. Al Weis and Walt Williams contributed rbi hits. This White Sox comeback win is the first game in an amazing 10 game winning streak. 

Don Buford's 2-Run Single in 9th Caps White Sox Comeback Win

April 28, 1967 Friday (N) at Comiskey Park

Trailing 2 - 1 in the home 9th, the Chicago White Sox mounted a 2-run rally to defeat Sonny Siebert and the Cleveland Indians 3 to 2. Wayne Causey led off the last of the 9th with a pinch single. Ed Stroud pinch ran and promptly stole 2nd. Smoky Burgess pinch hit and drew a walk. Al Weis pinch ran for Burgess, and after a Ron Hansen strike out, Ken Berry reached on a Siebert error to load the bases. With one out, Don Buford stroked a clutch 2-run single scoring Ed Stroud with the tieing run and Al Weis with the game winner.

Joe Horlen and Sonny Siebert were locked in a pitchers' duel until the Indians scored two in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. Bob Locker relieved in the eighth following Hoyt Wilhelm and picked up the late inning win. The Chisox stole 3 more bases (Don Buford, Ed Stroud and Ken Berry).

McCraw Belts 3-Run HR; Gary Peters Quiets Yanks 5 - 1

April 26, 1967 Day Game Yankee Stadium

White Sox Tommy McCraw stroked a 2-out 3-run homerun off Yankees Mel Stottlemyre in the 3rd inning to lead Chicago to a 5 to 1 win. Starting pitcher Gary Peters started the 4-run 3rd inning with a base hit and scored on Don Buford's single. The White Sox southpaw tossed a complete game 4-hitter and struck out 7 New York Yankees.

NY Yankees Whitey Ford Owns Chicago Again, 11 to 2

April 25, 1967 Day Game @ Yankee Stadium

New York Yankees Whitey Ford captures his final career win going the distance in a 11 to 2 victory.
Ford had a complete game shutout against the White Sox earlier this month, won his 2nd game (and last victory of his career as he eventually retires in May 1967). Chicago's Tommy John surrendered 10 hiits and 7 earned runs and was lifted during the Yankees 6-run 5th inning. Charlie Smith led the Yanks with 4 hits and Dick Howser had 3. Chisox Dick Kenworthy was 1 for 4 with an rbi and run scored.
The Sox are now at 6 wins and 6 losses.

Senators Bernie Allen's HR & Barry Moore Beat Sox 5 - 1

April 23, 1967 Day Game DC Stadium

Washington Senators Bernie Allen homered off Bruce Howard in the 1st inning to jump start the  Nats and Barry Moore threw a complete game to defeat the Chicago White Sox 5 to 1. The Senators collected 11 hits and held the Sox scoreless until the ninth inning when Wayne Causey drove home Chicago's only run with a 2 out double spoiling Moore's bid for a shutout.

Joel Horlen Has No-Hitter into 8th, Chisox Win 1 - 0

April 22, 1967    Day Game DC Stadium Washington Senators

White Sox starter Joel Horlen finished with a complete game 2-hit shutout after pitching no-hit ball for 7 1/3 innings. Washington Senators Cap Peterson nipped Horlen for a single breaking up the no hit bid. Horlen faced only 29 batters, giving up the two hits, 1 walk with 3 strikeouts. He has won 2 and lost 0.

Chicago managed only 2 hits all game with Tommie Agee producing the game's only run with a solo HR. Pete Ward had the White Sox' only other base hit.

Ken Harrelson's Walk Off Single Defeats White Sox 4 - 3

4/21/67 D.C. Stadium Washington Senators

"Hawk" Harrelson's 2-out 9th inning bases loaded single scored Chuck Brinkman and gave the Senators a 4-3 victory over Gary Peters and the Chicago White Sox.  Joe Coleman pitched a complete game for the win. Pete Ward had a solo homerun, his 3rd of the year and Tommie Agee hit his 2nd, a 2-run shot.  Gary Peters struck out 12 in 8 2/3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.
