White Sox Bomb Orioles 13 - 1

May 10, 1967 (n) at Baltimore Orioles Memorial Stadium

Who said Chicago couldn't hit? The White Sox amassed 15 hits and belted 4 home runs hammering the Baltimore Orioles 13 - 1. Scoring in all but 3 innings the Sox put up a 5 spot in the 3rd inning with 6 hits and 3 walks.

Leading the hit barrage with home runs were Tommy McCraw (3), Pete Ward (4), Dick Kenworthy (1) and Tommie Agee (5). Duane Josephson, Don Buford and Agee had 3 hits a piece. Almost lost in the Chisox offense was Tommy John's complete game 6 - hitter, 1 ER (Curt Blefary solo HR), 0 walks and 6 K's. Orioles starter Steve Barber (2-3) took the loss. The White Sox won their 6th game in a row and stand at 14-7.  Chicago's line score:  40 AB   13 R   15 H   11 RBI

Agee & Hansen Homer, Chisox Win Fifth Straight, 5 - 4

May 9, 1967 (Night Game) @ Memorial Stadium Baltimore Orioles

Tommie Agee jump started Chicago with a 2-run homerun in the first inning. But, Orioles Boog Powell  tagged starter Gary Peters with a 3-run blast in the bottom of the first.  There was no more scoring until the Sox fifth inning when after a JC Martin walk, Ron Hansen clobbered another 2-run homerun giving the White Sox a brief 4-3 lead.

After Baltimore tied the score 4 - 4 in the last of the 6th, Gary Peters laced a triple in the 7th inning and scored on a Don Buford single giving the Chisox the 5 -4 lead. White Sox Gary Peters was 2 for 3 on the day and scored the game winning run.  He pitched 8 1/3 allowing 4 ER, 5 H, 5 BB with 9 K's. Bob Locker retired the final two Orioles hitters to gain his 5th save. Chicago is 13-7 and in 1st place.

Sox Blank Tribe 2 - 0, Horlen Grabs 3rd Win

May 6, 1967 (Day Game) @ Cleveland Indians

Chicago won it's 4th in a row shutting out Cleveland as Joel Horlen (3-0) allowed only 3 hits through 7 innings and Bob Locker (4 Saves) mopped up retiring the side in order in both the 8th and 9th innings. Horlen left the game early after he singled in the top of the eighth and was forced out at second base.

The White Sox scored on a Gary Bell wild pitch in the first inning and on a Tommy McCraw rbi single in the ninth plating Pete Ward who had 3 walks on the day. Indians starter Gary Bell went 8 innings giving up just 3 Palehose hits. Chicago had only 4 hits for the game. Chicago is now 12 - 7.

Eddie Stanky's Managerial Contract Extended through 1969

After a successful year in 1966 managing the Chicago White Sox, skipper Eddie Stanky was given a contract extension on September 30, 1966. The contract was approved by the American League on October 28, 1966.  Stanky's new contract ran through 1967, 1968 and 1969.

White Sox Tommy John's 4-Hitter Upends Cleveland 3 - 2

May 5, 1967 (n) at Cleveland Indians

Tommy John recorded his first win of 1967 pitching a complete game 4-hitter to defeat the Indians and Steve Hargan at Cleveland 3 to 2. Tommy's sinker was at its best inducing groundouts all night with 1st baseman Tommy McCraw making 17 putouts mostly from infielders' assists.

The White Sox trailed 2 - 0 after two innings but tied the score in the 3rd as Wayne Causey reached on a BB, Tommie Agee singled and McCraw had a groundout rbi. Ken Berry followed with an rbi single. Tied at 2 all in the ninth, Chicago scored the go ahead run after 1 out. Agee stroked another single, promptly stole 2b (9th of the year) and Pete Ward brought him home with an rbi single. The Sox had 5 total hits for the game; Pete Ward stole his 1st base of the year. Fittingly, Tommy John retired the Indians in the home half of the ninth on 3 ground ball outs. The White Sox are now 11 - 7.

Chisox Gary Peters Outduels Detroit Tigers Denny McLain 2 - 1

May 3, 1967 Night Game @ Comiskey Park vs Detroit Tigers

The Chicago White Sox mustered only 4 hits all night, but managed 2 of them in the 1st inning scoring their only 2 runs of the game and hung on to beat the Tigers 2 to 1.  With 2 outs in the bottom of the first inning, Tommy Agee was hit by a Denny McLain pitch and promptly stole 2nd (his 8th SB of the year). Pete Ward ripped a clutch 2-out single to score Agee. Tommy McCraw followed driving Ward home with a single.

Gary Peters picked up his 2nd win scattering 7 hits and 3 walks over 7 innings allowing 1 ER, striking out 7 Tigers. Peters was relieved by Bob Locker with 2 on and no outs in the 7th.  Locker pitched the final two innings and recorded his 3rd SV. He escaped the bases loaded no out 7th inning jam allowing only the 1 run to score. The Tigers had numerous chances on the night but could not find the clutch hit. They left 12 runners on base. Al Kaline, Don Wert and Dick McAuliffe had 2 hits each. Chicago continued its agressive base running with Agee (8), Wayne Causey (1) and Al Weis (1) each having a stolen base. The White Sox are now 10 - 7 on the season.
